Puerto Rico 2023 - A nine member team left Minneapolis on
January 7, 2023 to spend a full week in Mayaguez, and Ponce,
Puerto Rico for a week of working the mission field that is
there. The Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod has two congregations
and three pastors working in the communities mentioned, with
hopes to expand the work to San Juan in the near future. The
assignment for this mission team was to do a lot of clean-up and
painting at both sites. The work was hard and long but the
enjoyment and fellowship the team shared was well worth the
efforts given. And the best part was the weather. . . mid 80's
during the day and low 70's in the evening with a nice
breeze coming off the ocean.
Mayaguez is a city of 70,000 plus located on the western end of the island. The church there is named Iglesia
Luterana Principe de Paz translated Prince of Peace. The pastor is Gustavo Maita and his wife Ruth and two children.
The congregation is small but the outreach continues.
Ponce' is a city of 130,000 plus located in the mid-south part of the island. The Church there is Iglesia Luterana
Fuente de Vida which is translated the Lutheran Church of the Source of Life. The pastors there are James Nuendorf
and wife Christel and Adam Lehman and his family. They take daily walks through the city to meet, greet, and invite
people to come and learn of Jesus.
Pray of the mission of sharing God's Word with many who yet need to know of Jesus!
